Litzsinger Road at Mary Avenue- No Parking
SYNOPSIS:
To maintain an adequate street width and turning radius at the intersection of
Litzsinger Road and Mary Avenue, it is recommended to restrict a portion of onstreet parking on the south side of Litzsinger Road. Staff prepared a bill with the
recommended restriction for consideration to amend Table III-A of the municipal
code. Approval from Public Safety Committee is requested to advance this subject
to the Board of Aldermen.
INITIATING DEPARTMENT:
Public Works
SUBJECT:
Litzsinger Road at Mary Ave - No Parking
PRESENTER:
Dan Gummersheimer, PE, Director of Public Works
BACKGROUND:
The intersection of Litzsinger Road at Mary Avenue is a right-angle connection
between the two roadways. On street parking along both sides of Litzsinger Road
is permissible in the 8700 block of Litzsinger. If parked vehicles are on both sides of
Litzsinger Road and in line with the west side of Mary Avenue, then it is challenging
to travel from eastbound Litzsinger Road onto southbound Mary Avenue. Staff
propose some parking restrictions to about 20 feet of the south side of Litzsinger
Road just west of Mary Avenue.
FINANCE/OPERATION:
The cost for a new signpost and parking restriction sign is around $100 for
materials only and staff could provide the labor to install a signpost in areas clear
from underground utility conflicts. Material costs can be accommodated under
Capital Improvements- Sidewalks & Streets (40-401-6535).

concerns

concerns
RECOMMENDATION:
Public Works staff recommends consideration of parking restrictions on the south
side of Litzsinger Road west of Mary Avenue near 8702 Litzsinger Road. A motion to
forward this recommendation to the Board of Aldermen is requested.

Right Turns On Red Prohibited
INTRODUCTION:
Staff investigated turn restrictions at Eulalie Avenue at Brentwood Boulevard and
determined that portions of Table VII-A were obsolete since improvements to
Highway 40 (Interstate I-64) changed these concern areas. Staff prepared a bill
with the recommended revisions to amend Table VII-A of the municipal code.
Approval from Public Safety Committee is requested to advance this subject to the
Board of Aldermen.
INITIATING DEPARTMENT:
Public Works
SUBJECT:
Amendment to city ordinances regarding prohibited right turns on red.
PRESENTER:
Dan Gummersheimer, PE, Director of Public Works
BACKGROUND:
The intersections that are obsolete regarding right turns on red are prohibited are:
Hanley Road, southbound, onto Eager Road.
Highway 40, eastbound off-ramp, onto Eager Road.
Highway 40, eastbound off-ramp, onto Hanley Road.
The other intersections listed in Table VII-A should remain unchanged. Staff will
alert St. Louis County DOT to attach the warning signs to its traffic signals since
these signs were missing from Eulalie Avenue at Brentwood Boulevard and
Litzsinger Road at Hanley Road. The warning sign for White Ave at Brentwood
Boulevard is in place though.
FINANCE/OPERATION:
The cost for the right turn restriction signs should be that of St. Louis County DOT.
If needed, Public Works could purchase these signs for St. Louis County DOT for a
nominal amount and code to Capital Improvements- Sidewalks & Streets (40-4016535).
RECOMMENDATION:
Public Works staff recommends consideration of modifying Table VII-A. A motion
to forward this recommendation to the Board of Aldermen is requested.
