Peoria Police Department Updates

Chief Dixon briefly mentioned some upcoming events: Autism Walk on 10/17 at 8AM, and the
PPD's Neighborhood Block Party on 10/17 at 11AM. He also briefly went over crime statistics
compared to last year: 31% decrease in shooting incidents, 30% decrease in shooting victims, 0%
shooting murders, and 11% increase in all murder. Currently, 9 out of the 10 homicides for the
year have been solved. He discussed how LPRs (license plate readers) played a crucial role in
helping solve one of this year's homicides. He also went into detail regarding the checks and
balances to this tool and how the system self audits. In the October 27th council meeting, Chief
Dixon mentioned how he will be asking for approval of a 5-year Axon contract that will
streamline the current individual contracts the department already has. This contract will also
include additional technology such as Drone as First Responder and DraftOne (a report writing
tool).
