Singapore License Plate Recognition Demo LPR Cameras ALPR Intelligent Car Park Management Solution
The short version: A vendor demo for Singapore car-park LPR cameras is a small window into how casually plate-scanning tech gets marketed as convenience, not surveillance.
Our Take
RICOMTECK's demo reel is standard vendor fare: clean footage of a gate lifting as a camera reads a plate, framed as 'smart parking' rather than what it actually is — automated tracking of every vehicle that enters a lot. That framing matters. Once ALPR hardware gets sold as a parking convenience or a 'smart city' feature, nobody stops to ask who owns the read history, how long it's stored, or whether it ever leaves the building it was installed in.
This is exactly the pattern we track domestically with Flock Safety and its competitors: the pitch starts with a narrow, practical use case — find your car, catch toll skippers, manage a garage — and the underlying capability quietly becomes a general-purpose surveillance layer. Car park systems like this one aren't hooked into national databases the way Flock's network is, but the hardware and the appetite for it are the same, and it's a reminder that plate-reading cameras are proliferating in commercial spaces most people never think to look for.
Credit to RICOMTECK for at least being upfront that this is a product demo, not a public safety pitch. If you want to see where actual ALPR surveillance infrastructure is showing up in your own neighborhood, check our camera map, and if you're ready to push back on it, our take-action page has next steps.
