Most privacy debates stay at the bumper-sticker level of "they're reading your plate," but this video gets into the architecture: vector embeddings, edge inference on solar-powered cameras, and cloud backends like Oracle 26ai that don't care whether the plate matches because they're matching the whole car. Roof racks, dents, decals, tire style — all of it becomes searchable data.
That's the part that should worry you. The entire folk wisdom around beating ALPR — plate covers, swapping plates, driving a rental — assumes the system is keyed to seven or eight characters. If the industry has quietly moved to fingerprinting the vehicle itself, then the countermeasure is obsolete before most people even learn it exists. And once a car is fingerprinted once, it can be re-identified anywhere in the network without ever reading a plate again, which is a fundamentally different (and harder to contest) form of tracking.
