Flock is now making drones...
The short version: FiguringItOut's new video flags Flock Safety's reported move into drones, and we think it's a predictable next step in the company's push to blanket American communities in automated tracking.
Our Take
Credit to FiguringItOut for putting a spotlight on this: if Flock Safety is genuinely branching out from fixed ALPR cameras into drones, that's not a side project, it's the next chapter of the same playbook. Flock built its business by convincing small-town police departments that a camera on every road in and out of town was just "smart policing." Drones are the logical extension — mobile, harder to predict, and able to go places a pole-mounted camera never could.
We don't have confirmed specs, deployment numbers, or contract details from the video description, so we're not going to pretend we do. But the pattern matters more than the particulars: a private company that already sells departments on warrantless, always-on vehicle tracking is now positioning itself to put eyes in the sky too, with the same thin oversight, the same vague retention policies, and the same "trust us" sales pitch that got thousands of ALPR units installed with little public debate in the first place.
This is exactly why documenting what's already out there matters. Check our camera map to see what Flock infrastructure is already in your area, and if your city council hasn't had a real public conversation about this technology, our take-action page has tools to help you start one before drones are the next line item nobody got to vote on.
