Credit to DirectorGarg for putting a spotlight on something we've been saying for a while: Flock Safety's crime-reduction pitch runs almost entirely on marketing copy, not peer-reviewed research. When the company that sells the cameras is also the sole source grading its own homework, that's not evidence — that's a sales brochure with footnotes.
This matters because thousands of local governments are approving ALPR contracts based on these unverified claims, often without asking basic questions about accuracy, false positives, or what happens to the data once it's collected. A permanent, networked surveillance system is being built on a foundation of "trust us," and that should bother anyone who cares about due process or civil liberties, regardless of politics.
