Police Misusing Flock Cameras for Stalking Six Officers Fired or Arrested in One Week!

2 Beards and a Plan · 3 weeks ago

The short version: A YouTube creator reports six officers fired or arrested in one week for misusing Flock cameras — proof the 'trust us' pitch for ALPR networks doesn't hold up.

Our Take

Credit to 2 Beards and a Plan for compiling this — when six law enforcement officers reportedly get fired or arrested in a single week over misuse of Flock Safety's license plate readers, that's not a fluke, it's a pattern. These systems were sold to city councils as neutral tools for solving car thefts and Amber Alerts. In practice, they hand any badge-holder with login credentials the ability to track an ex-partner, a neighbor, a journalist, or a political rival's movements across an entire metro area.

This is exactly the failure mode we've warned about: audit logs and 'policy restrictions' are not the same as actual oversight. Flock's own marketing leans on trust, but trust isn't a security model. When the people with access to a surveillance network are the ones abusing it, the problem isn't a few bad apples — it's a system built without meaningful guardrails against insider misuse, and with almost no transparency for the public footing the bill.

If your town has Flock cameras, you deserve to know where they are and who can query them. Check our camera map to see what's already watching your streets, and head to take action if you want to push back on unchecked ALPR deployment in your community.
