When the company that sells ShotSpotter also supplies the stats about how many gunshots supposedly go undetected without it, take those numbers with a heavy dose of skepticism — there's no independent audit here, just a vendor grading its own product.
The bigger story is the pattern: gunshot sensors triggering automatic drone launches over people's backyards, on top of license plate readers already logging every car that passes. Each system gets pitched alone as a narrow, reasonable tool, but together they add up to a city where a loud noise can summon an aircraft, and a drive to the store gets logged in a database — all with minimal public input on retention, access, or who's watching the feed afterward.
