Flock Cameras and License Plate Reader being Install.

Emergency365 · 2 months ago

The short version: A raw installation clip from Emergency365 shows how quickly Flock ALPR cameras go up with little public input or fanfare.

Our Take

Credit to Emergency365 for capturing something most residents never see: the actual moment a Flock Safety camera goes up on a pole in their neighborhood. No ribbon cutting, no town hall, just a crew doing routine utility work that happens to add another node to a nationwide license plate tracking network. That mundanity is exactly the point — this is infrastructure being normalized in plain sight.

What footage like this doesn't show is the paperwork trail: the vendor contract, the data retention policy, the list of agencies that can query the plate reads once they're flowing into Flock's cloud. A camera going up in an afternoon can mean years of location data collected on every driver who passes, often without a public vote or even a council briefing beforehand. That's the gap DeFlock exists to close.

If you've spotted a new install like this one in your own town, log it on our camera map so neighbors can see exactly where the tracking starts. And if you want to push back before the next pole goes up near you, our take-action guide walks through how to get it on your local government's agenda.
