Credit where it's due: Indivisible Orange did something a lot of surveillance critics talk about but rarely pull off — they got people out of their living rooms and onto the sidewalk to actually look at the machine tracking their movements. A "Flock Walk" from Plaza Park to a live camera on Chapman Avenue is a smart, low-cost tactic. It's one thing to read that Orange, California has ALPR cameras; it's another to stand under one with your neighbors and realize this is just a normal intersection, on a normal street, being logged every time you drive through it.
This matters because Flock Safety's pitch has always relied on abstraction — "public safety," "solve more crimes," numbers on a dashboard. What gets lost is that every one of those cameras is capturing plate, location, and timestamp data on everyone, not just suspects, and stitching it into a searchable movement history that can be queried, shared, or misused with almost no independent oversight in most cities. Local actions like this one are how that abstraction gets punctured. It's harder to wave off surveillance infrastructure as a hypothetical when a group of residents just walked to the corner and pointed at it.
