Police Tracked a Stolen Dodge Challenger in Minutes… Bodycam Compilation

Best Bodycam · 3 months ago

The short version: A viral bodycam clip shows Flock ALPR cracking a stolen Challenger case fast, but 'it worked once' isn't a privacy policy.

Our Take

Credit to Best Bodycam for stitching together the Westfield Police Department footage — it's a clean, dramatic example of how fast an ALPR hit can turn into an arrest. Nobody disputes that recovering a stolen car in minutes looks good on camera. That's exactly why these compilations spread: they're the highlight reel the surveillance industry wants you to see.

What the video doesn't show is the other 99.9% of plates Flock's cameras scanned that day — the commuters, the churchgoers, the people visiting a clinic or an ex, all logged into a database with no stolen-car flag attached, just sitting there searchable by any agency with access. One good catch doesn't tell you how long that data lives, who can query it, or whether it's been shared with ICE, bounty hunters, or a cop running plates for personal reasons. Success stories are the industry's marketing department; they're not an audit.

If Flock is operating in your town, you deserve to know it exists before you see it in a feel-good clip. Check our camera map to see what's already watching your streets, and if you want to push back on blanket plate surveillance, our take-action page has concrete steps for your next city council meeting.
