Loudon and Knoxville, Same Day, GTFOH!

GTFOH Loudon County · 1 month ago

The short version: Tennessee grassroots group GTFOH shows ALPR pushback is scaling regionally, with Loudon County and Knoxville both confronting Flock Safety surveillance on the same day.

Our Take

Credit to GTFOH Loudon County for connecting the dots here: two Tennessee communities, one calendar date, both saying enough is enough. Loudon residents are pressing their council to put surveillance tech on a public workshop agenda and actually get police, public safety, and utilities officials in a room to answer questions — not just rubber-stamp another camera contract behind closed doors. Meanwhile, down in Knoxville, residents are holding a rally and public hearing the same afternoon, with Flock's own CEO reportedly showing up in person. That's notable. When the vendor sends leadership to defend a deployment, it usually means local pressure is working.

This is exactly the pattern we've been tracking: ALPR rollouts get approved fast and quietly, then organized pushback has to play catch-up county by county. What's different here is the coordination — two fights, same day, same state, feeding off each other's momentum. That's how this becomes a regional reckoning instead of a string of isolated local skirmishes. If Knoxville residents are demanding a full DeFlock, and Loudon is demanding basic transparency, both are really asking the same question: who approved this, under what rules, and who's watching the watchers.

If you're in Tennessee or anywhere else wondering whether your town already has these cameras up, check our map before your next council meeting — and if you want to organize a push like this one, our take-action page has the playbook.
