5 Minute Privacy Audit #PrivacyAudit #PhoneSecurity
The short version: Mading Thok's quick phone privacy checklist is solid personal hygiene, but it can't touch the license-plate-reading cameras watching you drive to work.
Our Take
Credit where it's due: Mading Thok's 5-minute privacy audit is the kind of bite-sized advice everyone should actually follow. Locking down app permissions, killing "Always" location access, and turning on two-factor auth are easy wins that put you ahead of most phone users. We're not knocking any of it.
But here's the gap nobody's five-minute checklist covers: none of this touches the automated license plate readers bolted to poles on your street, at your kid's school, or along your commute. You can delete every unused app and switch to DuckDuckGo, and Flock Safety's cameras will still log your plate, time, and location every time you drive past one — no permission screen, no opt-out, no toggle to flip. That data gets stored, searched, and sometimes shared across agencies with little oversight.
Personal device hygiene and fighting mass surveillance infrastructure are two different fights, and both matter. If you want to see what's actually watching your car in your neighborhood, check our camera map, and if you're ready to push back on this kind of tracking, our take-action page has concrete next steps.
