FLOCK CAM DELUSION
The short version: Tony Dortie's "Flock Cam Delusion" pushes back on blind trust in Flock Safety's ALPR network, and we're here for the skepticism.
Our Take
Tony Dortie's "Flock Cam Delusion" lands on a theme we hammer on constantly: the gap between what Flock Safety promises and what these camera networks actually deliver. We haven't seen the full breakdown, but the title alone nails the vibe of so much pro-surveillance messaging — treat the cameras as infallible crime-solving magic, skip the part where they're logging every car's movements regardless of guilt or innocence.
That's the delusion worth naming. Departments and city councils get pitched on "public safety" while the actual tradeoff — a permanent, searchable record of where you drive, who you visit, how often — barely gets a hearing. Once that data exists, it doesn't stay contained to the original sales pitch. Access expands, retention policies get stretched, and the promise of narrow use quietly erodes.
Credit to Tony Dortie for putting a crack in the narrative. If you want to see how far this network has spread in your own area, check our camera map, and if you're ready to push back locally, our take-action page has the tools to start.
