This one comes straight from the manufacturer: a promotional walkthrough by channel Keygon MrHu showing off Keygon's license plate recognition system pitched as a 'smart vehicle access control solution' for gates, garages, and parking lots. It's not investigative journalism, it's a sales reel — but that's exactly why it's worth a look. Videos like this show how plate-reading cameras are being marketed and sold well outside of policing, dropped into HOAs, apartment complexes, and private lots as routine access hardware.

That's the part that should give people pause. Once a camera is capturing and storing plate data at the gate to your parking garage, you've got a private company or property manager sitting on a log of who came and went, when, and how often — with little public accountability, no warrant requirement, and often unclear rules on data retention or resale. Multiply that by every apartment complex, private community, and business lot buying these systems 'for convenience,' and you get a de facto surveillance network stitched together with zero public oversight, no matter that police weren't the ones who installed it.

We're not saying Keygon's product is doing anything nefarious — we don't have visibility into its backend, retention policy, or who else might get access to that data. But that opacity is the point: buyers see a smart gate, not a data pipeline.
