How Flock Builds the Future: Product Strategy, AI & Real-Time Integrations

Flock · 1 year ago

The short version: Flock's own house podcast has its Chief Strategy Officer talk up AI and 'real-time integrations' — corporate-speak for widening the surveillance net, not a neutral look at the tech.

Our Take

Let's be clear about what this is: a Flock Safety production, interviewing a Flock Safety executive, about Flock Safety's roadmap. Hosts Jamie Hudson and Dalton Webb give Chief Strategy Officer Bailey Quintrell a friendly stage to talk about "the right way to do integrations" and how AI will "transform public safety." That's a sales pitch dressed up as a behind-the-scenes conversation, and it's worth watching precisely because it tells you where the company wants to go next — not because it's an independent check on the technology.

The buzzwords matter. "Real-time integrations" means plugging license plate data into more systems, more agencies, and more third parties, faster. "AI shaping the future of law enforcement" means more automated flagging, more automated decision-making, and less human review of who gets treated as a suspect. None of that is inherently explained or justified in a rapid-fire, beard-joke interview format — it's framed as inevitable progress, with the actual civil liberties tradeoffs left off the agenda entirely.

We think it's useful to watch how the company talks about itself when it's not responding to a public records request or a city council pushback. But don't mistake product strategy talk for accountability. If you want to see what this expanding network actually looks like in your own backyard, check our camera map, and if you'd rather not wait for Flock's roadmap to arrive at your city council, see what you can do about it.
