Mt. Juliet's Safe City Program Uses Flock Tech to Help Police Stay Proactive

Flock · 6 months ago

The short version: Flock's own promo video touts Mt. Juliet's LPR-plus-drone 'Safe City' setup as a force multiplier, but it's a vendor ad, not independent evidence of safety or restraint.

Our Take

This one comes straight from Flock's marketing team, so treat it like the infomercial it is. The video stitches together a single most-wanted arrest with b-roll of license plate readers, PTZ cameras, and a drone fleet to sell the idea that Mt. Juliet is safer because every car and every street now gets logged by machines. Notice what's missing: any mention of retention limits, audit trails, who else can query the data, or how often the system is wrong. A vendor narrating its own success story is not oversight.

'Force multiplier' is the tell. It means the department can watch more people, more often, without hiring more officers or answering to more voters about where the cameras go. Drone as First Responder adds an eye in the sky that can be dispatched on automated triggers, stacking aerial tracking on top of a town-wide plate-reader net. One solved case doesn't tell you what happens to the thousands of innocent drivers swept up along the way, or who's reviewing misuse.

If you live in or near Mt. Juliet, you deserve to know this infrastructure exists and how it's governed, not just see the highlight reel. Check our camera map to see what's already been deployed near you, and use our take-action guide to push your city council for real transparency before 'proactive policing' becomes permanent tracking.
