Our Take

The demo from STS Technologies LLC is simple: a little box blinks and beeps when it senses wireless activity consistent with Flock Safety hardware nearby. No app, no subscription, no data sent anywhere. That pitch alone tells you something about the current mood — people don't just want to know ALPRs exist in the abstract, they want a dashboard-mounted way to know when they're driving past one, in real time, without handing a third company their location data in the process.

We haven't tested this unit ourselves, so we can't vouch for detection accuracy, false-positive rates, or how it holds up against firmware changes on Flock's end. Wireless signatures shift, and any passive sniffer is only as good as its last update. Treat the marketing claims as claims, not verified fact — but the underlying demand is real and growing: communities are tired of discovering a camera only after they've already been logged by it.
