You’re Being TRACKED Every Time You Drive... People Are FREAKING Out

Raymond Kennedy · 2 months ago

The short version: Raymond Kennedy's reaction video captures the public unease as Flock's ALPR network quietly becomes a nationwide movement-tracking system.

Our Take

Raymond Kennedy's video taps into something we hear constantly: people are noticing these cameras for the first time and asking why nobody voted on this. The pitch is always the same — solve crimes, find stolen cars, keep neighborhoods safe. But as Kennedy points out, the pitch never mentions that every plate, on every trip, gets logged into a searchable history whether you're a suspect or not. That's not a crime-solving tool anymore. That's mass surveillance with a friendly logo.

The parts of the video worth sitting with are the failure cases — good data producing wrong conclusions, searches that sweep up innocent people, and a network that keeps growing because the infrastructure is already sitting on the pole. Once a city says yes to a handful of cameras "just for serious crimes," there's no natural stopping point. Access creeps, use cases creep, and the audit logs that are supposed to keep it honest are only as good as the agency willing to review them.

Credit to Kennedy for putting real examples in front of an audience that's still catching up to how normalized this has become.
