Flock cameras are getting wild out here π€― #carnews #flockcameras #bodycam #policevideos
The short version: A viral clip from creator CBoyd shows just how fast Flock's ALPR network can turn a routine drive into a police encounter, and that speed should worry everyone.
Our Take
Credit to CBoyd for putting this clip out there β bodycam and dashcam footage like this is some of the only real public evidence of how Flock Safety's license plate readers actually function once they're wired into police dispatch. Most of us never see the moment a camera flags a plate and officers are suddenly rolling up. This video does.
What makes these clips "wild" isn't just the speed of the response, it's what that speed implies: a nationwide, largely unregulated network of cameras scanning every plate that passes, running it against databases, and triggering armed police contact based on an automated match. No warrant, no judge, often no public record of how the list was built or how often it's wrong. When that system works as advertised it's unsettling enough β when it doesn't, the consequences land on ordinary drivers who did nothing but drive past a pole-mounted camera.
This is exactly why we track where these cameras are going up in the first place. Check our map to see what's watching your routes, and if you want to push back on your city council or state legislature, our take-action page has the tools to get started.
