CITIES ACROSS THE U.S. REPLACE FLOCK CAMERAS WITH COMPANY LINKED TO EPSTEIN, TRUMP, AND BLACKROCK

Devin · 2 months ago

The short version: A YouTuber named Devin flags cities swapping Flock for another ALPR vendor with its own murky financial ties — proof that the surveillance problem is bigger than one brand name.

Our Take

Creator Devin is tracking something we watch closely at DeFlock: when a city drops Flock Safety, it doesn't necessarily mean the cameras come down — often it just means a different company's hardware goes up the pole instead. The specific ownership ties Devin raises deserve scrutiny, and we'd want to see the underlying filings and contracts before treating any name-dropping as settled fact. But the broader point stands regardless of which financiers are behind which logo.

That's the real lesson here: mass license-plate surveillance isn't a Flock problem, it's an industry problem. Whether it's Flock, Motorola, Rekor, or some lesser-known vendor backed by private equity, the business model is the same — harvest every plate that passes, store it, and sell access to police departments and sometimes private clients. Swapping vendors doesn't restore your privacy if the new camera is just as networked and the data-sharing agreements are just as opaque.

Check our map to see what's actually watching your street, and if you don't like the answer, head to take-action to push your city council for real accountability — not just a rebrand.
