BriefCam's pitch here is polished and practical: read a plate at Point A, read it again at Point B, do the math, and you've got an average speed. Sounds like a tidy traffic-safety tool. But strip away the dashboard graphics and what you're actually watching is a demonstration of point-to-point vehicle tracking — the exact capability that turns a scattered camera network into a surveillance grid. To calculate that speed, the system has to capture and timestamp every single plate that passes both cameras, not just the ones breaking the limit. Everyone becomes a data point.

This is the quiet mission-creep problem with LPR vendors selling into police and municipal contracts. The tech gets marketed for a narrow, sympathetic use case — speeding, stolen cars, an Amber Alert — but the underlying architecture is a general-purpose location-tracking system that logs where your car has been, when, and how fast, indefinitely searchable across every module BriefCam offers.
