This App Shows EVERY Security Camera Around You! ๐ธ๐
The short version: A YouTuber highlights an app mapping security cameras and Flock ALPRs, underscoring why crowdsourced surveillance transparency tools matter.
Our Take
Credit to TheMoreYouKnow for putting a spotlight on something we've been saying for a while: most people have no idea how many cameras are logging their daily movements. When a general-interest tech channel starts covering camera-mapping apps, it's a sign the surveillance normalization conversation is finally breaking out of activist circles and into the mainstream.
Flock Safety's ALPR network deserves special attention here, and not just because it's one more dot on a map. These cameras read your plate, timestamp it, geolocate it, and stash that data in a system that's frequently shared across agencies and sometimes with federal partnersโall without a warrant and often without your city council ever holding a real public debate about it. An app that shows you where these cameras live is a good first step, but knowing is only half the battle.
We built our own camera map specifically to track Flock deployments block by block, because transparency only matters if it leads somewhere. If this video got you thinking about the cameras on your own street, don't stop at curiosityโcheck out our take-action resources for ways to push back at the local level, from public records requests to city council pressure campaigns.
