Someone added Flock cameras into GTA5 so you can blow them up, and it's awesome!
The short version: A GTA5 modder turned Flock's ALPR network into a destructible in-game menace, using satire to expose how these cameras really operate.
Our Take
Credit to Orwell Day for flagging this one: a modder built "Grand Theft Automated License Plate Reader," dropping 235 faux-Flock cameras into GTA5 that snap your plate, track your route, and can even flag you for crimes you never committed. That last detail isn't just a gag — it's a pointed jab at the real-world false-positive problem that's landed innocent drivers at gunpoint during traffic stops across the country.
Satire works because it compresses a complicated issue into something visceral. Here, it's the dopamine hit of blowing up a surveillance camera with in-game cash, standing in for the very real frustration communities feel when these poles go up without a vote, a hearing, or a chance to opt out. The mod can't touch the actual devices bolted to our streets, but it does something useful anyway: it makes the abstract concept of a nationwide ALPR dragnet feel immediate and absurd, which is exactly how it should feel.
If you want to see where the non-virtual version of this network is creeping into your neighborhood, check our camera map, and if you're ready to push back for real — not just in-game — our take-action page has the tools to start.
