Keygon License Plate Recognition System | Smart Vehicle Access Control Solution
The short version: A vendor demo for Keygon's LPR gate system is a reminder that plate-reading cameras are now a commodity product, sold as casually as a doorbell.
Our Take
This clip from Keygon MrHu is a straightforward product reel, not an expose: a vendor showing off how its license plate recognition system can swing open a gate for an "authorized" car. Credit where due, it's a clean demo of the tech. But that's exactly why it's worth pausing on. What used to be specialized surveillance hardware sold to police departments is now packaged as an off-the-shelf convenience gadget for parking lots and apartment complexes, installed by whoever wins the contractor bid, with zero public oversight, no retention policy, and no audit trail required.
Every one of these "smart access" installs is another node logging who drives where and when, often feeding into third-party clouds that residents never agreed to and can't opt out of. A private community wanting controlled parking is a reasonable ask; a permanent log of every plate that passes through is a different thing entirely, and most buyers never ask who else can access that data or how long it sits on a server.
This is how plate-reader infrastructure spreads in this country: not through one big government program, but through thousands of small, unexamined purchases by HOAs, landlords, and property managers. If you want to see how dense this network already is near you, check our camera map, and if you're ready to push back on a system going in near your own home, our take-action page has concrete next steps.
