Flock Safety gets most of the headlines because its cameras are bolted to poles in thousands of towns, but the surveillance state being built right now is a partnership between multiple vendors, local police departments, and the data-sharing networks that stitch it all together. Axon, Flock, and whoever comes next are all selling pieces of the same puzzle — persistent tracking of ordinary people who've done nothing wrong.
That framing matters because it's easy to get tunnel vision on a single brand and think the fight ends if one company gets bad press or loses a contract. It doesn't. The infrastructure of mass surveillance is modular by design — swap one vendor's ALPR for another's, add facial recognition or drone integration, and the dragnet keeps growing. The real target has to be the underlying policy: warrantless data collection, indefinite retention, and zero public oversight, regardless of whose logo is on the camera.
