Mark Lamb Testifies for Flock Cameras: "I'm a big constitution guy BUT...."
The short version: A campaign video flags Sheriff Mark Lamb's classic 'I'm a constitutionalist, but...' pitch for Flock cameras across Pinal and Maricopa counties.
Our Take
Credit to Daniel Keenan's campaign for catching the tell. Whenever a public official opens with "I'm a big constitution guy, BUT," what follows is almost always the part where the constitution gets an exception carved out of it. Sheriff Mark Lamb backing Flock deployment in Pinal and Maricopa counties fits a pattern we see across the country: local leaders sell ALPR networks as a narrow tool for catching bad guys, while glossing over the fact that every plate, including yours, gets logged, timestamped, and stored whether or not you've done anything wrong.
That rhetorical hedge matters because it's doing real work. "Constitution guy, but" is how mass surveillance gets normalized — not through a single dramatic rights violation, but through officials who genuinely believe in limited government right up until a vendor demo promises to make their jobs easier. The result is the same regardless of the sheriff's personal politics: a growing dragnet of driving data with thin oversight and vague retention rules.
If you live in or near Pinal or Maricopa County, check our camera map to see what's already been installed near you, and head to take action if you want to push back at the local level before this becomes the default everywhere.
