We all need to unite and destroy flock cameras!

Fell sans · 2 weeks ago

The short version: A viral clip from creator Fell Sans captures raw public anger at Flock Safety cameras, but destruction isn't a strategy—organizing is.

Our Take

Fell Sans (find them on Instagram as champagnelance_) just put into words what a lot of people are feeling as these cameras multiply on street corners with zero public vote: frustration boiling over into "let's just get rid of them." We get the impulse. ALPR networks like Flock's have spread into thousands of towns with little debate, less oversight, and a data-sharing pipeline that stretches far beyond the intersection where the camera sits.

But torching a pole doesn't touch the database, the vendor contract, or the police department's retention policy — and it hands the surveillance lobby a tidy story about 'lawless opponents' that makes real reform harder to sell to city councils. The actual leverage is boring and procedural: public records requests, council meetings, audit demands, and local coalitions that force transparency votes. That's slower than a wrench, but it's the stuff that's actually rolled back ALPR programs in some cities.
