When the company that profits from selling license plate readers to every small town in Wisconsin also produces the video explaining why you need license plate readers, you should read it the same way you'd read a car ad — technically true, carefully edited, and missing the parts that don't help sell the product.
The 'kidnappers and murderers' framing is the same pitch used in every city council meeting Flock reps show up to. It's emotionally effective and occasionally accurate — rare high-profile recoveries do happen. What the reel leaves out is the everyday reality: thousands of cameras logging every vehicle that passes, indefinitely retained data, no requirement that police get a warrant to search it, and departments quietly sharing access across state lines. 'Hundreds of communities' isn't a public-safety statistic, it's a sales number, and it's exactly the kind of unchecked expansion we've been tracking as it spreads county by county.
