This is the reason Flock is the least of your worries. #flock #survellance
The short version: The 850 Podcast argues Flock cameras are just one piece of a much bigger surveillance puzzle, and we agree the bigger picture deserves scrutiny.
Our Take
The 850 Podcast is making a point we've been hammering for a while: Flock Safety's ALPR network is alarming, but it's not operating in a vacuum. It's one node in a sprawling mesh of license plate data, doorbell camera footage, data broker records, and law enforcement information-sharing agreements that together paint a far more invasive picture than any single camera system could on its own. Credit to the creator for pushing viewers to zoom out instead of fixating on one vendor's logo.
This is exactly why we think the "it's just traffic safety" pitch from Flock and its police partners misses the point entirely. The danger isn't one company's cameras — it's the normalization of constant, searchable tracking of where you drive, who you visit, and how often, all stitched together across jurisdictions with little public oversight. When that data gets pooled with other surveillance streams, the privacy loss compounds fast, and most residents have no idea it's happening in their own neighborhood.
