Green lazers dont point them at flock cameras as it detroys heir lens
The short version: A YouTube creator claims green lasers can fry Flock camera lenses, but vandalism isn't a strategy — mapping and policy pressure are.
Our Take
A video from the channel Digital ID, Mass Surveillance and Digital Currency is making the rounds with a blunt warning: don't point green lasers at Flock Safety cameras because it can supposedly fry the lens. We're not going to pretend we have independent confirmation that this works as described, and honestly, the technical specifics matter less than the broader signal here — people are frustrated enough with the spread of automated license plate readers that they're looking for direct, physical ways to push back.
We get the impulse, but DeFlock USA isn't in the business of encouraging criminal mischief. Frying a $2,000 camera with a laser pointer is still destruction of property, it can land you with charges, and it does nothing to slow the rollout of the next unit going up down the street. Flock's business model depends on volume — more poles, more networks, more data shared across agencies — and that keeps expanding whether or not a handful of cameras get knocked offline one at a time.
What actually moves the needle is visibility and organizing: knowing exactly where these cameras are, documenting new installations, and showing up to city council meetings armed with facts instead of frustration. Check our camera map to see what's been deployed near you, and if you want to do something that actually sticks, our take-action page has real steps for pushing local governments to roll these programs back.
