Introducing Flock Alpha combating Deflock
The short version: A YouTuber named Mickystickey spotlights Flock Safety's new 'Flock Alpha' hardware, apparently pitched as a countermeasure to the DeFlock mapping movement.
Our Take
When a surveillance vendor starts naming products after the grassroots project tracking its own cameras, that's a tell. We don't have the full script here, and we're not going to pretend we do, but the framing alone — "combating DeFlock" — says a lot about how seriously Flock Safety takes citizen-led transparency efforts. Credit to Mickystickey for putting a camera on this and getting it in front of more eyes.
Whether "Flock Alpha" turns out to be a hardware tweak, a PR move, or something more aggressive, the pattern is familiar: as more people learn where these cameras are and what they capture, the companies selling them look for ways to blunt that visibility rather than open it up. That's backwards. The public paid for a lot of this infrastructure through local budgets, and the public has every right to know where it's pointed.

The more eyes on this stuff, the harder it is for any company — Alpha-branded or not — to operate in the dark.
