Credit to MrWaters, a former police officer, for doing what most law enforcement voices won't: dismantling the "nothing to hide" line from the inside. His point about Peterborough — 34,000 faces scanned in six hours, nearly all belonging to people who committed no crime — is the same math that applies every time a Flock camera logs a plate here in the States. The technology changes, biometric face vs. plate and vehicle fingerprint, but the architecture is identical: blanket collection on the innocent, justified after the fact by the rare hit.

What's happening in UK city centers is basically a preview of where automated surveillance goes once nobody pushes back. Flock's network already scans plates without a warrant, without individualized suspicion, and stores the data for departments that often can't say who accesses it or why. Misidentification isn't hypothetical either — wrong-vehicle stops and mistaken flags have already put innocent Americans in handcuffs at gunpoint. The "if you've done nothing wrong" argument falls apart the second the system gets you wrong, and these systems get people wrong more often than agencies like to admit.
