Flock Safety Cameras TRACKING Children, Speaker Claims

Flock Off · 1 month ago

The short version: A speaker's claim that Flock cameras are tracking kids, highlighted by the channel Flock Off, underscores how little oversight exists on who these networks actually capture.

Our Take

Credit to the channel Flock Off for surfacing this claim — a speaker alleging that Flock Safety's ALPR network is logging children's movements. We can't verify the specifics from a title and description alone, but the underlying issue is real: these cameras don't have an age filter. If a kid rides in the back of a car, walks past a school-zone camera, or gets driven to practice, their presence gets vacuumed into a database alongside everyone else's, with no consent and often no public accounting of who sees that data.

This is the recurring problem with blanket ALPR deployment — it's not surveillance aimed at suspects, it's surveillance of everyone, kids included, justified after the fact by whatever crime happened to occur nearby. Communities rarely get a real vote on whether cameras go up, and once they're live, retention policies and data-sharing agreements are often vague or buried in contracts most residents never see.

If you want to know whether your neighborhood, your kid's school route, or your daily commute is already being logged, check our camera map. And if you think your town should have a say before more cameras go in, our take-action page has steps for pushing back at the local level.
