This clip from turnstile-Factory-AUS isn't about Flock Safety specifically, but it's a useful window into how normalized license plate reading has become. What used to be specialized surveillance gear marketed to police departments is now a plug-and-play parking gate accessory, sold as a convenience feature that happens to scan and log every plate that rolls through, reportedly across 200+ countries' formats. The pitch is efficiency. The reality is another camera capturing your movements, this time from a mall garage or apartment complex instead of a squad car.

What these vendor demos never mention is where that plate data goes after the gate lifts. Who owns the log, how long it's kept, whether it's sold, shared, or handed to a third party building a location history on you one parking lot at a time. Multiply this by every garage, lot, and gated community installing similar systems and you get a patchwork surveillance network with none of the disclosure requirements that even flawed police ALPR programs sometimes have.
