The short version: A South Dakota creator reminds us that beating back one Flock camera isn't victory — the fight against ALPR surveillance never really ends.
Our Take
The Minutemen Report's blunt title says it all: "it's not over till it's gone, and anything like it." That's the right instinct. Flock Safety and its imitators don't give up after one city council says no or one contract lapses — they rebrand, repitch to the next county commission, or quietly renew under a new line item. A local win in South Dakota or anywhere else is a pause, not a retirement.
We appreciate creators keeping that pressure visible, because the surveillance industry counts on short attention spans. Once the cameras go up, they tend to multiply, get networked into statewide and even national data-sharing systems, and become normalized infrastructure nobody remembers voting for. Treating removal as the finish line, rather than ongoing vigilance against "anything like it," is how these networks creep back in under a different name.
If you want to know what's already watching your plates, check our camera map, and if you're ready to push back in your own town, our take-action page has the tools to help you make sure "gone" actually means gone.
