FLOCK AROUND. FIND OUT.

Boosted Safe · 2 weeks ago

The short version: A car-safe company riffs on Flock Safety paranoia to sell hardware, but the joke underscores how normalized ALPR tracking has become.

Our Take

Credit to Boosted Safe for turning anxiety about automated license plate readers into a punchy ad — "Flock Around. Find Out." is a good line, and it only lands because enough people now recognize the name Flock Safety and understand what these cameras are doing to their daily movements. That recognition didn't exist a few years ago; it's a sign of how fast this surveillance infrastructure has spread into public consciousness.

We're not in the business of endorsing products, and a locking box for your glovebox does nothing to stop a camera from logging your plate, time, and location every time you drive past one. That's the real issue: Flock's network doesn't care what's inside your car, it cares that your car exists and where it's been. No amount of in-vehicle security changes the fact that your travel patterns are being captured, stored, and in many cases shared with agencies well outside your own town.

If this video got you thinking about who's watching your plate, skip the gimmicks and go straight to the source — check our camera map to see what's logging you locally, and hit take action if you want to push back on these systems in your community.
