The Daily NEO put together something we think every American should watch: a time-lapse built straight from our own crowdsourced map data, showing the raw speed of Flock Safety's rollout. Watching dots bloom across the country month by month does something a spreadsheet can't — it makes the scale of this network impossible to ignore. Fewer than 450 cameras existed at the start of last year. Now there are more than 116,000. That's not gradual expansion, that's a land grab for your movements, and almost none of it happened with meaningful public debate.

It's also worth sitting with the fact that this map exists at all because one person, Will Freeman, decided the public deserved to see what was being bolted onto poles in their own neighborhoods without a vote or a press release. Flock's response wasn't transparency — it was a cease-and-desist letter aimed at the guy documenting their hardware. That tells you everything about how this industry wants to operate: quietly, and without anyone keeping score.
