Hundreds of Dogs saved with Flock
The short version: Flock's own promo video spins its ALPR network as a pet-rescue tool, but the feel-good framing glosses over the same cameras' mass surveillance of everyone's movements.
Our Take
This one comes straight from Flock Safety's own channel, so treat it like an ad — because it is one. Dogs and cats being reunited with owners is a genuinely nice outcome, and we're not going to pretend otherwise. But a company producing a highlight reel about lost puppies is also a company that would rather you not think too hard about the thousands of license plates its cameras log on ordinary people every single day, dog owner or not.
Notice what's missing from a video like this: any mention of retention periods, who else gets access to that data, how often it's shared with ICE or out-of-state agencies, or what happens when the system misreads a plate and sends police to the wrong house. 'We saved a dog' is a much easier story to tell than 'we built a nationwide tracking network that logs the movements of vehicles regardless of suspicion.' Both things can be true at once.
