How Flock Safety Got into Fullerton

The Hourly Struggle · 2 months ago

The short version: The Hourly Struggle's footage of Fullerton's council debate shows how one more California city talked itself into Flock Safety's ALPR network with minimal pushback.

Our Take

Credit to The Hourly Struggle for sitting through the Fullerton City Council session and pulling out the public comment that actually matters. These meetings are where the real decisions get made — usually with a handful of residents and a lot of procedural momentum pushing toward a signed contract before most of the city even knows Flock cameras are going up.

Fullerton's story is the same one we've watched play out in council chambers across the country: a public safety pitch, a vague promise about "solving crime," and very little discussion of who else gets access to the data, how long it's retained, or what happens when ICE or a neighboring department comes knocking. Once the vote passes, the infrastructure is permanent — and so is the surveillance footprint.

If Fullerton is moving forward, it's worth checking whether your own city is already on the list. Pull up our camera map to see what's been deployed near you, and if you want to push back before your council does the same thing Fullerton just did, our take-action page has the tools to get organized.
