πΉ More Flock surveillance cameras could be coming to Tiverton
The short version: Tiverton's Town Council quietly greenlit funding to expand Flock ALPR coverage, and residents deserve a real debate before more cameras go up.
Our Take
Credit to Stacy Corrigan for flagging this one locally β small-town council votes like this are exactly how Flock Safety's network has metastasized across the country, one line-item budget approval at a time, usually with little public notice until the poles are already in the ground.
Tiverton is a small town, which is precisely the point. Flock doesn't need a big city to build a surveillance dragnet β it just needs a council willing to approve "public safety" funding without asking hard questions about retention windows, data sharing agreements, who else can query the system, and whether any of this has actually reduced crime or just generated more tickets and more data. Expansion votes like this one rarely come with a public audit of the existing cameras' performance, which should be the first question asked before adding more.
If you live in or near Tiverton, this is the moment to show up to council meetings and ask where this data goes and who can access it β not after the cameras are already running. Check our camera map to see what's already deployed near you, and visit our take-action page for tools to push back before expansion becomes routine.
