She spoke against Flock cameras. The mayor cut her mic, then police cuffed her

The short version: A Springfield, Missouri resident was handcuffed and ticketed after criticizing Flock ALPR cameras at a council meeting, per YouTuber git_good_at_git.

Our Take

Credit to git_good_at_git for capturing this moment, because it says more about the state of local surveillance debates than any press release ever will. A resident shows up to a public meeting to criticize Flock's plate-reading cameras, gets her mic cut by the mayor, and ends up in handcuffs. That's not a city handling dissent — that's a city demonstrating exactly why people don't trust how these camera programs get approved in the first place.

Flock contracts get pitched to councils as a quiet technical upgrade, not a surveillance expansion worth real debate. When residents push back and get muzzled or arrested for it, it confirms the worst assumption critics have: that these systems are rolled out with as little public friction as possible, and local officials would rather silence scrutiny than answer for it. A handcuffed constituent is a worse look for Springfield than any amount of camera footage could ever be for Flock.
