FLOCK CEO BEGS FOR PRIVACY

Freedom and Human Achievement · 7 days ago

The short version: Flock's CEO reportedly asked the public to stop filming his staff — a rich request from a man running a nationwide camera network on the rest of us.

Our Take

Freedom and Human Achievement flags a genuinely jaw-dropping bit of hypocrisy: the chief executive of a company that blankets American streets with license plate cameras is apparently uncomfortable being filmed himself. If the reporting holds up, this is the same old surveillance-state logic — cameras pointed at you are "public safety," cameras pointed at them are "harassment."

We've said it before and we'll keep saying it: privacy is either a right everyone gets, or it's a privilege the surveillance industry reserves for itself while selling the rest of us out to police departments and data brokers. Flock's entire business model depends on the public accepting that there's no reasonable expectation of privacy in public space. It's worth asking the CEO, on camera, whether he agrees that standard should apply to him too.

Credit to Freedom and Human Achievement for putting this on record. If you want to see how close this surveillance network already is to your own front door, check our camera map, and if you're ready to push back locally, our take-action page has next steps.
