Argument For Flock Cameras?

We Regret This Already Podcast Official · 3 weeks ago

The short version: A podcast duo wades into the 'pro-Flock' argument, and we're always curious whether the pitch holds up once you look at the actual data.

Our Take

We clicked on this one because the title practically begs for a rebuttal: "Argument For Flock Cameras?" Credit to the We Regret This Already Podcast crew for at least framing it as a question rather than a press release. That's more intellectual honesty than most city council meetings manage when Flock Safety reps show up with a slide deck.

Here's the thing about the pro-ALPR argument, whatever shape it takes in this episode: it almost always rests on anecdote — a stolen car recovered, a suspect flagged — while skipping the parts that should worry everyone. Who sees the billions of plate scans sitting in these databases. How long they're kept. Whether a cop in another state, or ICE, or a stalker with a badge, can query your movements without a warrant. "It helped solve one case" is not an argument for a nationwide, privately-run tracking network that logs where every driver goes, guilty or not.

We'd rather people hear the sales pitch and then go check what's actually bolted to the poles in their own neighborhood. Pull up our camera map to see how far this has already spread, and if the idea of a permanent record of your daily drives doesn't sit right with you, our take-action page has concrete steps for pushing back at the local level, where these decisions actually get made.
