Truth About Flock Cameras | From a Cop
The short version: Tactical Advisor's cop-perspective video on Flock cameras is worth a watch, but 'official' framing from law enforcement rarely tells the whole surveillance story.
Our Take
Tactical Advisor is bringing a law-enforcement voice into the Flock conversation, and we appreciate any creator willing to put this technology in front of a wider audience. Credit where it's due — getting cops on camera talking about ALPRs at all is more transparency than most agencies offer. But "truth from a cop" should come with an asterisk: officers are trained to talk about clearance rates and stolen cars, not about data retention policies, who else can query the system, or how often these networks get abused for personal reasons that have nothing to do with public safety.
That's the pattern we see over and over. The pitch is always the same — faster response times, safer streets — while the actual footprint of the system, who owns the data, and how long it's kept stays conveniently out of frame. A camera that reads every plate on a street doesn't stop being a surveillance tool just because the person explaining it wears a badge.
If this video gets you thinking about how many of these cameras are already watching your commute, go check our map to see what's been documented near you, and if you want to push back on unchecked deployment in your town, our take-action page has concrete next steps.
