Flock Exposed: Teaching Police to Surveil Protesters #shorts

Pour Brothers Decisions · 2 weeks ago

The short version: A leaked webinar reportedly shows Flock coaching police on tracking protesters, reviving every fear about ALPR mission creep into political surveillance.

Our Take

Credit to Pour Brothers Decisions for surfacing this clip. If a Flock-run training session really walks police through flagging vehicles tied to "anti-Trump" demonstrations, that's not a hypothetical slippery slope anymore — that's the company showing departments how to slide down it. Flock has spent years telling the public these cameras are for solving car thefts and Amber Alerts, not for building movement profiles on people exercising First Amendment rights.

This is exactly the pattern critics have warned about: a system sold as neutral infrastructure for "public safety" that, once installed, becomes a ready-made tool for tracking dissent. There's no meaningful federal law stopping a department from querying plate data around a protest route, a church, or a union hall. The audit trail is thin, the oversight is thinner, and apparently the sales pitch now includes tips on how to do it.

If this doesn't make your local city council ask hard questions about what their Flock contract actually permits, nothing will. Check our camera map to see what's already watching your streets, and head to our take-action page for ways to push back before this becomes standard procedure.
