Flock Cameras: Are YOU Being Tracked? Check Deflock.org NOW! #shorts

The Friendly Fire Podcast · 2 months ago

The short version: A podcast short wrestles openly with Flock's tracking power versus privacy costs — exactly the kind of public reckoning this surveillance network needs more of.

Our Take

Credit to The Friendly Fire Podcast for doing something a lot of local news segments won't: sitting with the discomfort instead of rushing past it. The video doesn't pretend Flock cameras are simple. It acknowledges the pitch — solving crimes, finding missing people — while also admitting that a nationwide network quietly logging every car that passes a given point is a different animal than a single security camera. That tension is the whole story, and most people have never been told it exists.

What usually gets left out of these "utility versus privacy" framings is scale and retention. One camera watching one intersection is not the issue. Thousands of cameras feeding a searchable, shareable database that law enforcement agencies across state lines can query is the issue. It turns ordinary movement — going to a clinic, a church, a protest, a lawyer's office — into a permanent record nobody voted to create and nobody can opt out of.

If this video made you pause and wonder whether your own town has quietly plugged into this network, don't guess — check our camera map to see what's been documented near you, and head to take-action for concrete steps to push back at the city council level before the network grows any bigger.
