FlockYou Display Pro Touchscreen ALPR Awareness Detector | Introduction & Demo
The short version: STS Technologies' FlockYou Display Pro is a slick, open-source gadget that sniffs Wi-Fi for signs of nearby ALPR cameras, no subscription required.
Our Take
Credit where it's due: STS Technologies LLC built something the surveillance-industrial complex never intended to exist — a pocket tool that lets ordinary people passively scan for the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signatures tied to ALPR hardware, with a touchscreen, a speaker, and zero cloud account needed. That last part matters. Most "safety tech" in this space comes wrapped in a subscription and a data pipeline back to some company's servers. FlockYou flips that script: open-source firmware, local processing, no phone tether. That's the kind of citizen-first engineering we want to see more of.
We'd temper the hype with a dose of reality, though. Detecting a Wi-Fi beacon associated with ALPR gear isn't the same as confirming a Flock camera is bolted to the pole ahead — cellular-backhaul units, firmware changes, or simple signal dropout can all produce false negatives or false positives. Treat a gadget like this as a situational-awareness aid, not gospel. The real ground truth still comes from people walking their own streets, photographing poles, and logging what they find.
That's exactly the gap our camera map is built to fill, and why community-sourced documentation still matters even as detection hardware gets fancier. If this video pushes you to start paying attention to the poles in your neighborhood, don't stop at a beep on a screen — go log it, and check out our take-action page for ways to push back on these systems at the local level.
