Flock claims they don’t track people, but this camera tells a different story! 😳 #Surveillance

Apex Media · 2 months ago

The short version: Apex Media's clip pokes a hole in Flock's 'we don't track people' line, and that gap between PR and hardware is exactly why this fight matters.

Our Take

Credit to Apex Media for pointing the camera back at the camera. Flock Safety has built its whole public image on the claim that ALPRs just read plates, not people — no faces, no tracking, just neutral infrastructure. But as this video shows, the hardware and the marketing don't always agree, and when a company's technical reality diverges from its talking points, that's worth sitting with, not shrugging off.

This is the core problem with ALPR networks: they're sold to city councils as a narrow public-safety tool, then quietly expand in capability and scope once they're bolted to a pole. Residents are told one thing in a town hall and shown something else when someone actually looks closely at what the device is capturing and how long it's kept. Every one of these mismatches chips away at the 'trust us' pitch Flock depends on to keep expanding into new towns with little scrutiny.

If you want to see how far this network already reaches near you, check our camera map, and if your city is considering a Flock contract or already has one, our take-action page has tools to push back before the cameras go up for good.
