Check If Cops Searched Your License Plate (Free) #flock #privacy
The short version: JayBling spotlights haveibeenflocked.com, a free tool letting drivers check if police ran their plate through Flock's ALPR network—transparency cops never volunteer.
Our Take
Credit to JayBling for putting a spotlight on something Flock Safety and most police departments would rather you never think about: that every time you drive past one of their cameras, your plate, location, and timestamp get logged and are searchable by officers. Tools like haveibeenflocked.com matter because they flip the script, even slightly, giving ordinary drivers a way to ask 'was I looked up?' instead of just trusting that the answer is no.
That this tool exists at all is a response to real abuse cases — officers caught running plates for personal reasons, not public safety. Those incidents aren't bugs in the system, they're the predictable result of building a nationwide, retention-heavy surveillance network and then hoping the humans with access to it behave. A lookup tool is a nice stopgap, but it doesn't fix the underlying problem: there's no warrant requirement, no meaningful audit trail reform, and no consequence structure strong enough to deter misuse before it happens.
If you want to see how saturated your own neighborhood is with these cameras, check our camera map, and if you're ready to push back on a local Flock deployment or demand real audit transparency from your city council, our take-action page has the tools to get started.
